This picture is the chapel of a college. We had dinner in this college.

The conferences was over. I will leave for London tomorrow and stay one day and leave for Moscow. I am exhausted now.

I talked to the same young professor again today. He said before that he wanted to know the detail of my study. I gave him a sheet written about information. He said he investgated his own way and compared my equation with his.

He lives in Paris and I will visit in Paris in November. We will meet there. I hope the study will proceed by then.

This picture is the famous platform 9 3/4. Hogwarts students get on the train from here.

Only four days are remained by departure from Cambridge. I am just getting used to Cambridge. Meals are good and delicious than I expected. I like quietness here and there are no high buiding. Tops of churchs are the highest.

I discussed about my study with a professor in English yesterday. He was interested in my study! As a result, I would let him know the detail later. Moreover, I talked to another professor since I wanted to ask him some questions. He said he was busy to prepare the lecture given at the conference and we made a plan that we discuss about our topic tomorrow. He also confirmed my interest was good! Tomorrow I will talk my study and related topics.

This picture is a dining hall where we have breakfast or dinner.

In Japan, "college" is where classes or lectures take place, but in Cambridge, it seems to be not so. In a college, there are study rooms with a single bed in a building and a dining hall. Class rooms are in another place. I heard that only children whose parents are rich enter a university. In contrast to Japan, there are fewer students in university, especialy in Cambridge or Oxford.

There are many people who suggest what you should do or what the world should be. I never care those things. To be honest, I sometimes mind those things. I think that it is important to do or think what I want to do, never what I am told or expected. But sometimes it is required to do what I am told or expected. This is a necessary evil.

I quit The Linguist, because I don't have enough time. I stay in Europe by October. Once I will return Japan, and again I will go Europe in November. Moreover, one month ago I had a passion to study English, but now I didn't have it. In fact, there were no long period when I studied some subjects. The most long study period was the last year in high school. When I finished the university's entrance examination, I felt I didn't want to study ever again. Since then, I read books, article, and listen to lectures, and see games, movie, musical which I am curious, interested in, or feel the driving forth to, or have passion for.
We, some of participants on the conference, stay one of colleges in Cambridge. We have breakfast and dinner at the hall in that college. Today, a woman who is perhaps French sat in front of me on the dinner, and people around her was Japanese. This happened because most of us are Japanese. I felt I should talk to her, but no one talked to her and she got away as soon as she finished. I was sorry to her. But even if she was Japanese, probably I couldn't talk to her. I don't know how I talk to people who I have not ever talked.

I think communication skill is more important than English speaking skill. In my case, even if I can talk naturally in English, I don't know how to use it and therefore English speaking skill is unmeaningful.

This is one of the most remarkable books I have ever read. Through a woman's life, Kazuo Ishiguro presented a world where we can't help being touched by and thinking deeply about. Moreover, his writing style is very clear, and the plot is simple but the story is unexpectable.

I read NEVER LET ME GO in the airplane from Narita to London. I went slowly reading because I didn't want to get away in this creative, fantastic, and beautiful world. I would read another his books when I return home.
2006.09.13 Very quiet

It has been three days since I arrived at Cambridge. It is very quiet near my staying college. I also noticed that high buildings were not in here. Everyone walks fast than me. People use bikes, not motorcycle. There are beautiful grass. Birds eat grass. Meals are good. From nine in the morning to five thirty in the evening, we listened to lectures. I was exhausted. Sometimes, voices went through me.

Now, I stay in Cambridge. It was sunny and a little hot in daytime. But it was colder in night. Difference between the degree of day and night is big. I want to write more about happenings by far, but I have to go to bed since I should get up early and I am tired.
2006.09.05 Russian Embassy
I want to talk about a visit at Russian Embassy, and all the things that happened there. There is a need to get a visa to stay in Russia. In order to get visa, we have to go and submit an application form at Russian Embassy. Since, the open time for applying visa is 9:30-12:30, I left my home at 10:30.

When I arrived at Russian Embassy, I saw some police officers around that place. It is probably because the event happening around the north area or usual thing.

The reception office is on the right of it and a small office. I opened the door and went up a few stairs and entered the office. In the office, there were about ten people waiting for their own turn. Firstly, I took the number card 102 and waited for calling my number. Soon I was called, and I submitted my application to a Russian officer. The officers and us are separated by all glass wall. When you submit a paper or something, you have to put them in the box and officers get them safely, and when officers need to speak, they turn on the switch of the speaker because there is no hall on the wall. I was hardly able to hear her speaking. I managed to understand her and submitted the bill she gave to me to another officer. The charge was 15000yen, expensive! For business use, if you receive your visa one week later from the submitted day, you don't have to pay money. In my case, I have to get my visa by this Friday, because I will leave Japan at this Saturday, so I must pay some money to get my visa soon.

Probably you think that it had been good if I had applyed for visa sooner enough. Below is the situation I was in.

I need an invitation letter for applying visa for business use, and an invitation letter from the university I am going to visit arrived at Russian Embassy in 29 Aug. Moreover, before going to Russian Embassy, you have to send an confirmation letter by FAX. If an invitation letter is already sent to Russian Embassy, the organazation send back the confirmation letter to you. Then you are qualified for Visa Application. Anyway, I don't need a fax machine in own use, so I used that in my university. But an secretary I am familiar with and asked for use of the fax machine made a mistake about the phone number! She called me in my home three days after, and said this and the correct phone number. Hurriedly, I sent to Russian Embassy an confirmation letter by my home PC, which is able to send a paper by fax but not able to receive. Russian Embassy seemed to send back soon my confirmation letter. And I got it yesterday in my mail box of my university.

From observing. Russian women clerks are cold, not friendly, different from Japan civil servants.

I bought ebooks, The Wedding and Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks, at Powell's Books. Before downloading them, I thought that they were freely converted to any form, however, I can't. I need to convert them to text files because I would like to put them into my reading database.

Realizing it was impossible to convert them to text files, I started typing in seeing the PDF file. It takes a lot of time. In an hour, I was able to copy only six pages. Already, I am tired of copying.
